'Fat' clothes made slim

By DANICA LO

January 2, 2005 -- Winter chill has finally hit the city. As the mercury dips to frigid temperatures, out come the fattiest, bulkiest clothes of the year. No matter what clothes you've decided to don as armor against the bitter cold, though, make sure you're looking fabulous - and not fat. Avoid looking like a yeti this year - check out some of my best tips on how to wear your favorite winter clothes.

How many layers (of fat) do you have under that coat?

Puffy jackets are ubiquitous this season. Even if you're not a waif, you can confidently wear a short jacket - just make sure you pick something slimming for your bottom half.

"Skinny Pants" are made-to-order ($65 to $90 at skinnypants.com).
